Jessica is an Operational Excellence lead for our Lead Markets, based in our Global Technology and Innovation Center (GTIC) in Oldsmar, FL. Jessica joined Nielsen’s Emerging Leaders Program in 2012 and has since been involved in projects that make an impact on our clients, and our local and global communities.
Gandhi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” This famous quote encompasses my personal values. I’ve always been driven to have a positive impact on the community around me. As a result, I’ve developed a strong passion for community service both personally and professionally.
My first leadership opportunity began in college when I joined an organization whose mission is to make the communities around them a better place. Being a part of this organization strengthened my passion and desire to continue volunteering after graduation. As I prepared for life after college, I began to research companies whose values aligned with my own. I knew that I wanted to begin my career at a company that cared for the local and global communities in which they served.
During my search for a full-time job, I had an opportunity to attend an on-campus info session hosted by Nielsen at Florida A&M University. The representatives began to talk about Nielsen as a business and the rotational programs that they offered for graduates. What sparked my interest was how they spoke about Nielsen values, the company’s investment in diversity, the importance of being open and fostering a collaborative environment, and how they encourage associates to give back to the communities in which they operate. These were all points that spoke to me, and I knew at that moment Nielsen would be a great place for me to work.
After interacting with Nielsen on campus, I immediately applied and interviewed for the Emerging Leaders Program. I was given the distinct honor of being accepted into the program, beginning my rotation in July 2012. While in the program, I had the opportunity to work on operational projects that dealt with maintaining, improving and developing internal Nielsen processes that delivered data to our clients. It was exciting to be able to drive valuable results while getting a holistic view of the company at such an early point in my career.
In addition to matriculating through an amazing program and working on amazing projects, I also had the chance to work on a project that was near and dear to my heart, Nielsen Global Impact Day. As Nielsen’s annual day of service, Nielsen Global Impact Day allows all associates to step away from their desks and into their local communities. I was not only given the opportunity to volunteer, but I also had the chance to serve as a global co-lead. Working on a team of associates from around the world who share or exceed my level of passion for service further ignited my excitement to work for such a great company. There was no greater feeling than working and connecting with over 25,000 associates across the globe all in the name of service.
Nielsen has afforded me opportunities that I couldn’t imagine. I’ve had the chance to work for an amazing company and with amazing people, all while continuing to follow my passion for helping others. My decision to work here has been substantiated many times over, and I look forward to what’s in store for me in the future.
